Forward/Share Rate
Also known as: share rate, forwarding rate, forward-to-a-friend rate
When a subscriber forwards your email or shares it, they're vouching for you to someone new. A healthy forward/share rate means your content is good enough to pass along — free word-of-mouth reach.
How is forward/share rate calculated?
Forward/share rate = (forwards or shares ÷ emails delivered) × 100. It's usually tracked via a "forward to a friend" or social-share link, since native email forwards can't always be measured.
Why does forward rate matter?
It's a proxy for content value and an organic acquisition channel. Forwarded emails reach engaged, warm prospects — recommended by someone they trust.
How do you encourage sharing?
Create genuinely useful or delightful content, add clear forward-to-a-friend and social-share buttons, and give recipients a reason to share, like a referral incentive.
