Double Opt-In
Also known as: confirmed opt-in, DOI
Double opt-in adds one small step to signup — a confirmation click — and that step pays off in list quality. It verifies the address is real and the person genuinely wants your emails.
How does double opt-in work?
After someone submits a form, they receive an email asking them to confirm. Only when they click the confirmation link are they added as an active subscriber.
What are the benefits?
Cleaner lists, fewer invalid addresses and spam traps, higher engagement, and better deliverability. In some regions, confirmed consent also helps with compliance.
Double opt-in vs. single opt-in
Single opt-in captures more subscribers instantly; double opt-in captures fewer but higher-quality ones. Brands prioritizing deliverability and engagement often prefer double opt-in.
