What Is Automate.io?
Automatio.io is an app that enables you to create custom one-to-one integrations between a wide variety of marketing apps. Or you can build multi-app workflows across your marketing stack to extend your automation capabilities.
The interface is intuitive, and these integrations and workflows can be set up with only a few clicks. Plus, Automate.io doesn’t require any coding and makes field mapping a breeze.
In Automate.io, you build custom Bots (what Automate.io calls automations). The picture below is what you’ll see when you go to create a brand new Bot.
By default, this screen will let you pick two apps for a one-to-one integration—a trigger app and an action app. However, by clicking the “Add Action” button, you can extend your Bot to include as many apps as you need. You can also include functions built into Automate.io, such as time delays and filters.
Below, I’ve built a multi-app Bot that will help my sales team get in touch with a hot lead sooner by alerting the right people with a Slack message and an email.
What does all of this mean? It means you can do even more with Drip by linking it to more apps and opening up additional automated opportunities.

1. A New Roster of Apps That Integrate with Drip
Add subscribers to Drip and trigger campaigns when things happen in dozens of newly integrated apps. For example, add a tag to a contact in Salesforce, or label an email in Gmail. Your automation options now run deeper thanks to the more than 50 apps in Automate.io.
Some of these fresh connections include:
Slack: Send Instant Messages when Specific Actions Happen in Drip
The planet’s fastest-growing communications app can now be linked to Drip. Incorporate Slack in your one-to-one or multi-app Bots to be instantly notified of actions happening in your Drip account. For example, Slack can send you (or a channel) a message when:
- There is a new subscriber in Drip
- A subscriber completes a campaign
- Someone surpasses a specified lead score
Essentially, any action that happens in Drip can be relayed to Slack, so you—or anyone else who needs to know—can be instantly notified of that action.
Keep your salesperson on top of subscribers who complete a campaign or surpass a lead score so they can prioritize sales calls. Be tuned in when Drip receives a spam complaint, so you can resolve it quickly. And always keep relevant parties in the know through instant communication.
Below is an example of a subscriber becoming a lead in Drip, which triggers a message to be sent to a specific channel in Slack. I can even drop that subscriber’s email and lead score into the message that’s sent in Slack, which will provide necessary information without having to log into Drip.
Wufoo: Add, Tag, and Update Subscribers upon New Form Entries
Wufoo is an online form builder where you can create event registration forms, surveys, contact forms, and more. Automate.io makes it possible to build automation between Drip and Wufoo, so upon a new form entry, you can do things like:
- Add new subscribers in Drip
- Tag subscribers based on their form answers
- Add subscribers to different email campaigns and workflows
In the image below, I’ve made a simple Bot that adds a subscriber’s email address to my Drip account and tags them with Cat or Dog when they submit my survey “Cats or Dogs?”. I can then use that tag to send them relevant emails based on their responses for a more personalized experience.
2. Custom Integrations Made Any Way You Need
You might notice that some of the apps in Automate.io’s library are the same as ones in Drip’s library. What are the benefits of that?
Drip’s integrations are mostly one-way: If something happens in one of Drip’s integrated apps, you can automate an action to happen in Drip.
If a lead registers for a webinar in Crowdcast, you can create a rule that will apply a tag in Drip.
If someone buys something in Gumroad, you can record an event in Drip.
If a subscriber schedules an appointment via Calendly, you can send them an email campaign.
However, if an action takes place in Drip, you can’t trigger something else to happen in any of those apps. This means that if a tag is applied in Drip, it won’t update in Crowdcast. It isn’t a two-way integration.
But with Automate.io, this all changes. Let’s look at how Automate.io integrates Insightly, a CRM tool, and Drip.
Inside your Drip account right now, you can only automate actions in Insightly that are triggered by other apps; you can only send leads into Insightly when an action in another app triggers that event. When something happens in Insightly, though, it can’t trigger an action in any other app. It’s a one-way integration.
However, now you can make Bots that let you integrate in different ways than before. You can:
Add a contact to a Drip campaign when you tag a customer in Insightly.
Automatically update contact information in Insightly when it’s updated in Drip.
Add notes to a lead in Insightly when a custom event happens in Drip.

3. Drag-and-Drop Field Mapping
One of the most user-friendly aspects of this new integration is drag-and-drop field mapping across your entire Bot.
Field mapping is essentially equating a field in one app with a field in another, no matter if they’re built-in or custom. For example, let’s say one tool in your integration stores someone’s first name as [firstname] while another tool stores that information as [first_name]. It’s the same subscriber name, but it’s being called two different things.
Field mapping is how you signify that [firstname] in one app has the same value as [first_name] in another. Many times, field mapping requires writing the short code for a value across all of the apps you’re integrating with. One slip of the finger, though, and your field mapping won’t work.
Drag-and-drop field mapping enables you to drop the values of one app into another without having to type one smidge of code. And the less code you have to type, the less room there is for error in your Bots.
Simply grab a field in one app and drag it to the appropriate fields in the rest of the apps in your workflow for seamless mapping. Below, I clicked on the “Email” field in my trigger app, and I dragged it to the Email Address field of my action app.
Usually, I would have to type the trigger app’s exact code for an email address in the appropriate spots across every action app in this Bot. But since Automate.io lets me simply drop it into the field, I don’t have to worry about small typos causing big problems.
